Vine & Walnut :
An Autumn Blend
Autumn denotes the cycle of return. In the warm-up for winter, with fruit late and heavy on the vine, a blend of rare microlot coffees in a medium style, gems that shine brighter in the presence of their companions. A dimensional offering easily enjoyed hot or as cold brew.
A favorite that comes once a year, this legacy blend is sold for a limited time in retail and online. For years now, each limited released coffee is featured in a bag designed specifically for the roast. The Vine & Walnut Blend, named after the cross streets of the first Peet’s store, embraced more of the feeling of fall this year than in the past. The illustration, a Dutch work from the 1600s, brought not only a classical sense of autumn but also was able to tie in visual symbols of the name, taking what is the name of two streets in Berkeley and romanticizing it.
With the use an engraving from the 17th century, I still wanted other elements like the name of the coffee to feel a part of the scene. The name was hand lettered to feel interlocked with the asymmetrical positioning of the large tree. On the left gusset of the bag, below the coffee story, an illustration of Alfred Peet lightheartedly brings him back in time hundreds of years to the Dutch farming landscape.
